Airstream Rooftop Antenna Installation

The “best” location isn’t always available, here are some points to help guide you choose the best available location:

Look for the flattest area on the roof. This will allow the antenna to seal effectively and reduce the risk of leaks.
Place away from AC/Vent fan units. The compressor and fan motor can create a lot of RF “noise”.
Place at least 13” away from higher profile rooftop “clutter”, especially if it’s made of metal which reflects RF.
Have a pathway to run the antenna cables. Cable lengths are 6’ or 15’. The router will require 12VDC.
Access to the underside of the roof- the Mako Domes have a threaded shaft and nut to help secure the antenna from the bottom. The 3M adhesive (on the bottom of the antenna) is designed to hold and keep it waterproof, tightening the nut will further secure the antenna.
Note – If the roof is uneven or corrugated, we offer a thick pad that can help ensure a watertight installation.
For Airstreams- For trailers newer than 2019, we suggest placing the antenna over the hole the factory placed. In most instances, you should be able to reach the underside to secure the nut.

Many times this is very straightforward. Some installers have found it helpful to use a braided cable sleeve. Place the cables in the sleeve to prevent them from getting snagged on curves, etc.
